Religion

The universe is vast, it is infinate, it has no DISCERNABLE end.
All religions I know of are based on the idea of a Supreme Being in one form or another.
All religions I know of teach love of God and love of your fellow man.
Yet, more people are killed in the name of religion then in any other cause.
Why is this true?

You gotta believe.

Belief is the basis of all religions. Salvation comes to those who believe. Those who are religious believe there is a God. Some believe in Allah, some believe in Budda, some believe in The Word, etc.. Atheists believe there is no God. The key word here for both beliver and non-beliver is believe. The problem is that there is no concrete evidence that God exists nor is there evidence that God does not exist. We can not go directly to God and simply ask him what he wants us to do in any given situation.

So religion sets forth a book of laws that man must follow in order to be deemed worthy in the eyes of a loving God. Through these laws man's mind trys to grasp the idea of who or what God is and what he wants us to do with our lives. We search for a cause, a reason for our existance, a higher purpose and in doing so deem ourselves unworthy as we try to understand what lies beyond this life, what in reality lies beyond reality.

Can we know the taste of chocolate without having tasted it? Can we know what exists beyond this life without having experienced it. According to religion we can, but only if we believe. Is belief then reality or is reality created by belief? Belief is a idea, an idea of the mind. The trouble here is that belief is not controlled by the mind. The mind becomes controlled by belief and in turn becomes prey to the Ayatollahs of the world.

There may be a God or there may not be a God. Does it really make a difference? If 10,000 people are going to die in an earthquake, a hurricane or other natural disaster then 10,000 people are going to die. It doesn't matter whether they worship Budda, Allah or Jesus. Existance exists. So don't tell me what you believe. Tell me what you know. Otherwise I will believe what I believe and you will believe what you believe. Mostly it will then be what we have been taught by others in our life who like us also have no proof either way.

It is the nature of us human beings to make all things more complicated then they are. In my opinion and it is merely my opinion or belief, Gods purpose was to recreate himself in mankind. In so doing he gave us a choice he did not demand. He will not attempt to solve all of our problem or all the problems of the universe. If we live our lives by one simple rule, the "Golden Rule", we will be worthy of his blessings. If not we will have debased his purpose for mankind.

As a side thought we call Mother Nature mother yet her biggest claim to fame is the distruction she causes.
